In order to change the world, you must first imagine what you want to change it to. This imagination, this vision, has tremendous power. Those who are able to turn their visions into reality are recognized as having the most impact and influence on the world. This power and effect is what drives people like you and me and thousands others - we believe that our visions can change the world for the better, and we’d be doing it disservice NOT to pursue it. I’ve always admired those 5% of people who mold the world into a better place. Whether you want to be rich, save people’s lives, or give hope to millions - you have to transform the world in some way, a way that only you can imagine.
In a previous article, Why Delusion Can Be Good For You, I talk about the power of believing in your vision, even if everyone tells you that you’re delusional. Sometimes the naysayers may be right - your idea stinks and you just didn’t realize it. But sometimes they’re wrong - your vision is destined to become reality, and no one except for you has the imagination and courage to make it happen. I won’t pretend that I know which ideas or visions are destined to be successful, because in reality, no one knows for sure what the future will bring. But what I do know is that if you don’t believe in your vision, then no one else will.
So what is all this talk about “changing reality”, and what do I mean by it? To me, “to change reality” means to change people’s conceptions of what is true and what is possible. It could mean empowering people or making them believe in something they previously didn’t believe in. It could also mean adding or creating something unique, effectively adding to the world in some way. After all, if you add something of your own creation to the world, have you not changed the world in some way? What didn’t previously exist, now exists. Whether its a work of art that people can listen to or touch or look at, or a business that people can find value in, or a tool that people can use - you’ve changed reality as we know it. To me, there is nothing more inspiring than the idea of changing reality by utilizing my unique talents, creativity, and vision. Everyone has something to add, and you and I are no exception.
So how are you going to change the world? How are you going to change reality? The more people that succeed, the more we all benefit. Every one of you out there has a unique vision, or talent, or idea that can change reality for the better. That vision is a blessing, and its place belongs in the world. That is its journey: from deep inside you someplace whether it originates in your heart, mind or soul, to its final destination out in the world where its destiny lies, whatever that may be. The world is waiting.
I continue this article in Create, Don’t Consume, which you should read for a deeper exploration of how to change the world.
