The Destiny Principle

In my previous article, The Power of Believing, (which you should go back and read before continuing with this one), I talked about the power that believing in something can bring to your life. For some of us, believing isn’t even a choice - we simply have to in order to live life the way we want! There is no other way - either you believe and you go all out or you don’t believe and you don’t live at all. Now before I begin, I have to state that The Destiny Principle is a concept I made up and have chosen to believe, if only for the reason that it empowers me in some way. The Destiny Principle is not a phenomenon that can be measured - because evaluating the success of self-help psychology is beyond the capabilities of even our best scientists. The link between the mind and our actions is a complex, mysterious thing.

So what exactly is the “Destiny Principle”? Well, its related to the concept of a destiny, which according to Wikipedia “refers to a predetermined course of events.”  In turn, The Destiny Principle is that in order to succeed, you must believe its already going to happen. So for instance, in order to be great, you must believe that you are bound to be great eventually, because it is your fate to be so. It could be from the alignment of the stars when you were born, or from the fate of the name you were born with, or any number of things that can’t be proved true or untrue. Whatever the source of the belief that its in your destiny is to be successful, all that matters is that you believe in it, in order for the Destiny Principle to be a powerful force in your life.

Because the Destiny Principle is so powerful, I believe that once you stop believing in your eventual success, what happens is even more dangerous: your destiny for success is replaced with a destiny for failure. If you don’t believe that its in your destiny to be successful, then tell me, what exactly do you believe? Everyone has to believe in something. If you believe that your destiny is to be a failure, that’s still a belief. If you’re to believe in something, you might as well believe in your eventual success. It’s not a matter of what is true or untrue. It’s not even a matter of what is realistic or probable. It’s a matter of believing in what is necessary in order to empower you to reach your goal.

Every great person has found it necessary at some point to believe in himself, to imagine success as possible and inevitable. This gives him the hope to carry on and to not give up. What is your destiny? Do you believe in the alignment of the stars? Horoscopes? Do you believe in superstition? Your lucky hat? I’d like to hear your thoughts about The Destiny Principle and what role, if any, the concepts of fate and destiny play in your life. Ending thought: I doubt Samson had magic hair, and yet he still seemed to wither when he lost it.
